Development of a change management process for the introduction of digital maintenance tools (Maintenance 4.0)

Detailed description of challenge

Current state:

  • Planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance works are executed by personnel of the individual maintenance disciplines (WorkCentre: Mechanical/Electrical/Control & Instrumentation/ Facilities).
  • Scheduling is executed based on simple tools (whiteboard, folder board). Advanced digital systems are not used.
  • Scheduling is driven with focus on the own WorkCentre. Scheduling of supporting services is driven by different roles and the link to maintenance jobs shows inefficiencies (e.g. waiting time on both sides)

Target State:

  • Maintenance schedulers and team leads use newly introduced digital maintenance tool to align and schedule jobs so that resources and scheduling is executed with focus on efficiency / utilization of multiple WorkCentre / crafts / services.
  • Scheduling and planning for selected crafts (e.g. cranes, industrial cleaning) is centralized.

First initiatives within company

  • Implemented digital maintenance tool to reduce unscheduled time and waiting time of field technicians.

Need for support

  • Develop an integration plan for the new tool in existing environment and procedures of Maintenance department.
  • Develop a concept for processes and standards on how the maintenance tool can be used to optimize scheduling and tracking of maintenance activities.
  • Raise awareness of tool’s capability, highlighting advantages against simpler tools currently in use.
  • As follow-up project (not in scope of the ChemTelligence project): rollout adoption of the tool among maintenance personal.
